One of Sri Lanka’s most acclaimed and beloved authors, Martin Wickramasinghe (1890 – 1976) grew up in Koggala and his family home has today been transformed into the Koggala Folk Museum. Conveniently located just across from The Fortress Resort & Spa, this unique museum not only offers a glimpse into the island’s distinctive folk culture but also gives you an insight into this great author.
Set amidst picturesque greenery, this carefully preserved ancestral home is a popular Koggala museum to visit when staying in and around Galle. Places to see in the south coast such as this museum are truly special because they take one back to days of old; Buddhist artefacts, intricate pottery, costumes used in folk dances, agricultural tools, traditional carts and colourful puppets and masks are just some of the highlights here. At the section named the ‘Hall of Life’, one can learn more about Martin Wickramasinghe and his many works and achievements.
