Visit Galle Fort and the Town

This spectacular fort was first created by Portuguese colonists in 1588 but was later fortified by the Dutch. Its well-preserved condition makes it hard to believe that it’s actually over 400 years old!

Declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Galle Dutch Fort is home to a curious collection of landmarks including the All Saints Church, Dutch Reformed Church, the fort gates and the lighthouse, to name a few. When walking along the charming cobbled streets and admiring the surroundings on a Galle day trip you’ll realise that there is a sort of familiarity here; this is because the architecture of the resort is actually inspired by the fort itself.
