Fun filled Avurudu celebration at the Fortress

The most widely celebrated cultural festival of the island, Sinhala and Tamil New Year or “Aluth Avurudu” as the natives call it, is a season for joy and merriment across entire Sri Lanka, for the young and old alike. It coincides with the harvest season during which the nature adorns itself in kaleidoscopic colours to go with the melodies of birds of spring.

Annual new year celebrations at The Fortress Resort and Spa were held with the participation of the resort guests. An assortment of traditional new year games was partaken joyfully and vigorously by the guests from all corners of the world and all walks of life.

The sound of firecrackers and the beat of the rabanna marked the dawn of this blissful day amidst the tantalizing aromas of the traditional sweetmeats and the cry of the Koel Bird. It was all fun and laughter, with families cheering their little ones on as they rushed by trying to balance the lime on the spoon or eat the buns faster than everyone else. The “elder” guests also had an enthralling time with games such as the famous sack race and tug-o-war throughout the day.

The festivities were thoroughly enjoyed by the guests of The Fortress Resort & Spa whilst settling into the well-appointed rooms & suites amidst the renowned hospitality.
